Satara restcamp entrance...Satara restcamp is located in the game-rich central section of the Kruger National Park. It offers a car wash, vehicle emergency service, petrol station, educational display, shop, restaurant, facilities for day visitors, camping and caravan sites, guest cottages, huts and a laundry.

Satara lies in the heart of outstanding game territory. The region is famous for its predators. The tranquil camp is the second largest in the Kruger National Park and has proved particularly popular with overseas visitors. Six large circles of huts are set among great expanses of lawns that are dotted with tall marula, acacia, Natal mohagony and sausage trees. Satara boasts the most dramatic of all cinemas in the park - an amphitheatre in the open. Its projection room also serves as an information centre which houses numerous interesting exhibits.

The camp was named in interesting circumstances. A 19th century Indian surveyor was marking out measurements in preparation for settlement by pioneer farmers. As he peered through this theodolite at this site he jotted down on his map the word "Satra" which is hindi for "17" and from this map the camp was amazingly named.

Other restcamps: Berg en Dal, Crocodile Bridge, Letaba, Lower Sabie, Mopani, Olifants, Orpen, Pretoriuskop, Punda Maria, Shingwedzi and Skukuza restcamps.

Other bushveld camps: Bateleur, Biyamiti, Shumuwini, Sirheni and Talamati.
