The Park: Restcamps - Shingwedzi Advisory | Exploration | Map | Restcamps | Sections | Statistics | The Park The restcamp is located in the northern region of the Kruger National Park and offers stunning drives into prima elephant territory and nice drives along the Shingwedzi river.
Shingwedzi has an old world atmosphere, enhanched by its large grounds and historical buildings. The original buildings have been meticulously restored, but many of the original façades are still intact. In the gardens are ilala palms, cacti, aloes and displays of the famous Shingwedzi impala lily. Bird lovers will notice woodpeckers, glossy starlings, sunbirds and palm swifts. Shingwedzi lies in the heart of elephant country and many of the Magnificent Seven, including Mafunyane and Shingwedzi, once roamed the area's flat mopane plains. This is probably the area were one is most like to encouter large tuskers. Kanniedood (cannot die in Afrikaans) dam is a must for lovers of game and birds alike. The riverine ecosystem of the area can be fully appreciated by following the wists and loops of the roads which run along the banks of the dam. A waterside hide gives you the opportunity to observe the dam where dead trees form natural perches for a variety of water birds including darters, kingfishers, herons, storks and ducks. Impala, hippopotamus, buffalo, crocodile, nayala, leopard and elephant are common in the area. There are rewarding drives along the Mhpongolo river (good for lion) and south along the gravel road which follows the course of the Shingwedzi river towards Letaba. Other restcamps: Berg en Dal, Crocodile Bridge, Letaba, Lower Sabie, Mopani, Olifants, Orpen, Pretoriuskop, Punda Maria, Satara and Skukuza restcamps. Other bushveld camps: Bateleur, Biyamiti, Shumuwini, Sirheni and Talamati.

restaurant, shop, laundromat, petrol station, camping and
caravan site, facilities for day visitors, huts and an
educational display.
